Siddika Ahmed, one of the British Bangladeshi Power 100 List 2014 is committed to making a difference and has created a ‘M.A.D. Portfolio’ career for herself after working for large corporations and government. She is the founder and Managing Director of Breaking the Cycle UK – a charity facilitating the education of secondary school girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Bangladesh, a dream she had from when she was a young girl herself, and also works part-time for Oxfam GB and local goverment, providing training and support to ethnic minority women who aspire to set up their own business enterprises. Her passion for equality led to her appointment as the Chair of the North West Regional Equality and Diversity Group and her selection as a Member of the National Muslim Women’s Group by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. She is currently a Board Member of the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester (Forever Manchester).


Building Blocks for the Girls

We have to believe inside that we deserve to be where we are, and to achieve what we have achieved. But we also have to understand that we cannot hold a belief that society owes us anything and instead make our own destinies, and likewise complain that nothing will ever change without understanding that we can control our own reality.
